Bestowed with several national and international accolades, the Maharajas’ Express is undoubtedly pioneering the world’s luxury train travel segment since it commenced its operation in year 2010. Enormous response and recognition from the international travel fraternity in such a short span of time, narrates the entire story of its opulence, royalty and hospitality. The World’s Leading Luxury Train always keeps adding new feathers to its grandiloquent bow. Recently, it has introduced a new destination Ratnagiri in both of its Southern Special itineraries. Here, in this blog, we would bring an insight into Ratnagiri from a traveler perspective.
The Ratnagiri is a port city on the Arabian Sea coast in Ratnagiri district that falls in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, India. This great tourist spot lies between two prominent cities of the region – Mumbai and Goa. Ratnagiri is not just another coastal city, but it has its own rich history. Umpteen alluring beaches on one side and hills on the other side, all this creates a supernatural sight that would leave you awe-stuck. Travelers from around the world come down to this tiny town to explore the scenic elegance and ages-old forts.
This city has also a unique distinction of producing world famous Alphonso mangoes.
Not just this much, but you’ll have even more reasons that make your Ratnagiri tour in thematically designed cabins of Maharajas’ Express an everlasting. You can dip yourself in the magnificent beaches, soak up the sun on the white sand, explore around the hill tops for historic places, and many more.
Worth visiting destinations in Ratnagiri city are:
Ratnadurg Fort
Located on a hill-top and surrounded by Arabian Sea. The fort was initially build during the Bahamani rule, and later rebuilt by one Dhondu Bhaskar Pratinidhi in 1790. The fort was once conquered by Shivaji Maharaj and occupied by his son before the British took over in 1818.
There is a famous temple inside the fort and strategically placed underground tunnels. You can witness a ravishing view of the Arabian Sea and the city from the Ratnadurg Fort.
Thibaw Point & Thibaw Palace
Thibaw Point is located on a tiny hillock, and is well-known for a site to stare sun-set. You can experience a panoramic view of Bhatye Bridge to Pawas, Someshwar Creek, and Arabian Sea from here. On a few minute walk from the Thibaw Point, the famous Thibaw Palace is located which was built by the exiled king and queen of Burma in 1910-11.
Titanic Point
Titanic Point is the best place for viewing the setting sun changing colors of the horizon and gently dipping into the Arabian Sea. This would definitely an awe-inspiring moment for life.
Aare-Ware Twin Beaches
These alluring twin beaches are in between Ratnagiri and Ganpatipule. Soaking up sun on white sand, you can experience crab pattern and can also hear euphoric sound of the waves with no disturbance.
