Jodhpur – The Blue City

Known as the ‘Blue City’ and the ‘Sun City’ of India, Jodhpur is famous for its beautiful forts, temples and palaces. It is the 2nd largest city in the beautiful state of Rajasthan comprising of unmatched delicacies, artifacts, places to explore set in the stark landscape of Thar desert.

The city enjoys bright and sunny weather throughout the year, however the best time to visit it is between October to March (this is also the Maharajas’ Express Season). The weather through these months is extremely pleasant with a nip in the air in October and November followed by a chilly winter till February and a sunny March.

While there are many famous things available in the city to buy, the most popular are the ‘Jodhpur Pants’ which were introduced by Sir Pratap Singh, a younger son of Maharaja of Jodhpur. He was an avid Polo player, while visiting the Queen Victoria in England back in 1897, he made his entire polo team wear the Jodhpur pants, it was later adapted by the English men as well.

The city is also popular for the beautiful forts like Mehrangarh Fort which is a very famous tourist attraction followed by places like Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park, Jodhpur Flying Fox, Clock Tower, Step Well and many more. If you intend to shop, the best things to purchase are Bandhej clothing, Mojris, Scroll Paintings, Spices & Tea, and Handicrafts.
