“Gwalior is a celebrated city of true royals, situated in the state of Madhya Pradesh, which is world-renowned for its majestic fort. Among the significant spot in the palace is the Jauhar Pond, where the Rajput queens committed sati after their kings had been vanquished in battle.
Jai Villas Palace, built by Maharaja Jiyaji Rao Scindia and designed by Sir Michael Filose, is an Italianate structure that is a fine blend of the Tuscan and Corinthian architecture modes. The palace is adorned with ornate mirrors, Versailles furniture, Belgian chandeliers, Venetian cut glass swing, handmade carpet, huge dining table and an antique Rolls Royce. The great Tansen, a pillar of Hindustani classical music and one of the jewels of Akbar’s court, lies buried in Gwalior. At this place the tomb of Tansen is built that has a simple and pristine aura. To venerate this great musician, a national level music competition is held at the place in the month of November or December.
