“Jaipur, Jodhpur & Udaipur are the names that often come to ones mind when talking about regal Rajasthan. An added name to these jewels is that of Bikaner. Founded by Rao Bika in 1486, it derives its name from its founder.
Bikaner was and is the centre for Usta Art, a generic term for the Manoti-Naqqashi (embossed and unembossed floral and geometric patterned objects layered with gold) media produced by Usta family master artistans of Bikaner. This city is almost most famously known for sweets and snacks or namkeens as they are called in Hindi. It is also known for multiple festivals & fairs held here which include the International Camel Festival, Kodamdesar Mela, Kapil Muni fair, Siyana Bhairoon mela, etc.
The main attractions at Bikaner are the Junagarh Fort, Laxmi Niwas Palace, Lalgarh Palace, Maru Nayak Ji, Laxmi Nath Temple, etc. The Bikaner folk dances Fire dance & Ghoomar Dance originated during the Rathor dynasty. The ghoomar dance is a particular dance that you can witness all across Rajasthan and a simple dance that every guest can join in for. So on your visit to Bikaner, make sure you have your dancing shoes on!”
